The Gray Field Recordings

The Gray Field Recordings was formed in 2001 by R. Loftiss. She creates music with a wide range of instruments such as bowed acoustic guitar, mountain dulcimer, flute, oboe, toys, synths, and potentially anything that makes a sound. The music is an amalgamation of noise, classical, folk, ambient, often all together in a single song.It has been described as “bizarre and unsettling, yet strangely beautiful” (Evening of Light). She has appeared on several compilations including Gold Leaf Branches (Foxglove/Digitalis) and Lead into Gold (Rebis Productions). She also performs on Anvil Salute’s album A Brief History of Bone and Mike Seed's A Boy Mistaken for a Crow. R. has collaborated with a number of artists including Ctephin, Anvil Salute, frogtoboggan, Spagirus, Techix, inalonelyplace, Cousin Silas, and Mike Seed.

"...It deserves to be widely heard, to be praised for it's adventure and resisting the obvious clichés." - Woven Wheat Whispers

"...the precision in which [these] ethereal compositions come to life is nothing short of spectacular." - Foxy Digitalis

"...There is a very clear idea behind it all. Don’t expect easygoing tracks, instead you will undergo a journey through several minimal yet melodic explorations featuring exquisite and subtle female spoken words that intervene here and there. The whole exhumes a rather occult atmosphere without becoming eccentric.”Side-Line

"This is a multi-faceted and complex project that lives in a parallel sound universe to folks like Magic Carpathians, Fursaxa and Jackie-O Motherfucker but seemingly without any connections to the outside world." - Ptolemaic Terrascope
